Green Team and Eco Helpers in Santa Monica National Park

In partnership with Second Chance, Morse High School, and the Elementary Institute of Science, GWSD's new 2011-2012 Green Team was able to embark on a fun-filled and educational camping trip to Santa Monica in August. We spent the day learning about invasive plants, animal scat, tools of the native cultures, the food chain, and many other hands-on ecology subjects with two National Parks Rangers, through their Eco Helpers Program.

Exploring Anacapa Island, revegetating native plants, and sleeping under the stars, our team of 18 high schoolers learned a lot about their environment, had a blast doing it, and even ate vegetarian for most of the trip! We are already planning our next camping trip for later this year.

To catch up on the trip, follow Kim's blog entries here, and follow this link to check out our re-cap video of Eco Helpers!

Stay green, San Diego.
