AECOM’s Dick Rol Lends Expertise to Groundwork San Diego-Chollas Creek

Dick Rol, ecologist and landscape architect for AECOM Corporation, will support and advise local environmental not-for-profit Groundwork San Diego-Chollas Creek.

Groundwork works to improve the environment, economy and quality of life within the Chollas Creek area.

With 14 years of experience, Normal Heights resident Rol has worked for private planning and design firms as well as state and local governments including the City of San Diego.  His work focuses on natural resource planning, habitat restoration and open space issues.

Rol has been actively involved in citywide open space issues for 10 years, including serving as a city staff member on the Open Space Citizen’s Advisory Committee, city staff liaison to the Wetlands Advisory Board, a member of San Diego Canyonlands’ Canyon Enhancement Planning Committee, and a leader of the Friends of Normal Heights Canyons.

At Groundwork, Rol will serve as the lead board director on the Cactus Wren Grant; a two-year project to rehabilitate nearly 75 acres of canyons in Encanto.

Rol’s extended responsibilities will include: advising the group on restoration programs; public education and outreach; attending board meetings; and providing technical expertise regarding grant acquisition and grant-funded project implementation.

With the assistance of students, families, businesses, and partner organizations, Groundwork restores creek and open space, tracks and saves species, and provides educational outreach around conservation, clean water, and climate challenge issues. Groundwork San Diego-Chollas Creek is part of the Groundwork USA national network of trusts, in partnership with EPA and National park Service.
